Sometimes life gets in the way of gardening. Find out what is going on in my life that has kept me away from gardening and my growing tomatoes blog for almost 2 years.
I’ve been away from my growing tomatoes blog for a long time, probably around a year and half to two years.
I thought I would let you know what is going on in my life that has kept me away from gardening.
A few years ago our son decided to buy an old house at the lake and asked if we could help him renovate it and also help him with his two little ones while he was working on the house.
He’s a single dad of two amazing little kids our grandchildren.
Of course we said yes and that meant moving to his new property until he was settled and on his own again.
Sometimes Life Gets In The Way Of Gardening
We proceeded to demo the house but we were expected to leave the structure on the same footprint. It probably would have been easier to just bulldoze the entire build down and start new from scratch.
However, according to the bylaws he had to leave the foundation and exterior walls intact.
Well, needless to say we proceeded to gut the whole interior without realizing that it was filled with black mold, asbestos, and rodent dropping and I mean loads of it.
I never thought about my health when I first started helping with the cleanup and I became really ill with a horrid lung infection that just about did me in.
Fast forward two years and his house is almost finished and I’m just starting to get better.
Breaking a Leg Can Really Put A Damper On Gardening
It was touch and go for sometime for me, but as of two months ago I figured this was finally going to be an awesome summer where I could get back to doing some gardening and landscaping.
After being ill for so long,I was getting so excited that spring was finally here, I almost couldn’t contain myself.
In my excitement to get outside I didn’t notice how wet the ground was. It had being raining non-stop for a week or two.
We live on the west coast and in the spring when it rains we get buckets of it.
Not thinking, I went down the steps and proceeded to cross the lawn and didn’t realize the ground was so wet and slippery.
I took a nasty fall when my feet went out from under me and I broke my leg in two places. Talk about pain!!
So, for the last 2 months I’ve been bed ridden. I’m just starting to be able to get around with a walker or crutches. I had my first outing last Saturday and it was really difficult.
It will be sometime before I’m able to walk without crutches, so my summer gardening seems to be a write off this year.
Need To Get Out And About
However, being in the house for so long is just about driving me a little crazy.
I finally broke down and bought a mobility scooter to get around. My husband and son have plans to build a ramp for me so that I can get in and out of the house on my own.
That should give me a little freedom. All I need now is to calm my senses with a little gardening!
If I can get outside, I can maybe (with the help of my grandkids) start doing a little container gardening.
We will see how things go and hopefully I’ll try and be more active and present on this site.
God willing, I should be as good as new by the Christmas.
However, until then I’ll try to keeping up with this blog when I feel up to it and share my adventures.
Stay Safe and Well,
