Gardening to Reduce Stress

Are you wondering if there any truth behind all the talk when it comes to gardening to reduce stress levels? Does gardening reduce stress?

Find out which of Nature’s vitamins will help with your well-being.

Gardening To Reduce Stress

Since breaking my leg I haven’t spent any time outside at all and I find that I’ve lost quite a bit of muscle strength.

I miss the sun’s rays and the feeling of how relaxed I am when I’m out and about gardening and especially playing in the dirt.

Gardening and growing tomatoes is the ideal hobby or outdoor activity for helping to soak up nature’s stress diminishing vitamins.

It’s one thing to takeVitamin D from a bottle but it is so much more satisfying getting all the Vitamin D your body requires from gardening or just being outside.

I know that when your body is trying to repair itself as in my case with a broken leg, it needs all the vitamin D it can get and as far as I’m concerned there is no better way of getting your vitamin D then from the sun.

The nice thing about being outside gardening is that you not only get exercise, but also vitamin D, and then when your vegetables are ready to harvest you get vitamins and health benefits that come from eating your own organic fresh produce.

So to me that sounds like a win win opportunity.

Gardening to Reduce Stress Level – The Real Truth

First of all the sun produces vitamin D which helps to protect our bodies from heart disease and certain cancers that are linked to stress.

Vitamin D that we get from working outside growing tomatoes and gardening isn’t the only vitamin that helps with stress.

However, when gardening you’re exposed to other elements that play an important role in exposing your body to numerous benefits of other vitamins and minerals.

Working out in the garden most certainly can help to diminish your stress levels and will keep you healthy and help you live longer.

As I get older I don’t necessarily like to go to the gym to workout, I’d rather have fun passing the time working on my yard or in the garden.

I still get the same amount of exercise but it doesn’t seem like I’m working out, it seems more like fun.

When you are gardening the exercise you get helps to increase your bone strength which helps to provide your body with a healthy immune system.

Having a healthy immune system in turn helps your body to fight off chronic illnesses and diseases.

Playing in the dirt whether you’re planting tomatoes in pots or containers or working in your greenhouse can benefit your well being by providing natural types of minerals, microorganisms and bacteria that are vital to your mental well being and to your physical health.

Not only that but your brain produces serotonin when gardening and this diminishes the effects of depression and stress.

Gardening To Reduce Stress Helps you Live Longer – My Experience

We all know that stress can zap the positive effects of almost everything we do. However, if we can just counteract these negative effects with a simple positive element such as gardening we are extending our life by years.

I come from a family who for generations have a long life span. As far as I can see my great grandparents, my grandparents, and my mom and great aunts all lived far into their late 90’s and into the 100’s.

My ancestors came from Eastern Europe and were mainly farmers they didn’t have much in common except for spending much of their time gardening.

They grew everything they ate and worked extremely hard. My mom lived to be 96, my grandmother 94, my aunt 101 and my grandfather 106.

The women in my family were not skinny, they carried quite a few pounds. They never dieted and rarely ever ate out.

My mom, my grandmother, my great aunt all worked on the their gardens right until they were in their late 90’s and as for my great aunt until she was 100.

So I would think that as an avid gardener and growing up in a family of gardeners working out in the garden is a way of relaxing and just being out in the yard and playing in the dirt helps to relieve the stress of everyday life.

When my kids were young and house became a little overwhelming with rambunctious play, you would find me out in the garden weeding or just walking through the rows. It brought me much needed peace.

Surprisingly, I read somewhere that people that were suffering from depression, anxiety, and other disorders like ADHD gain more from gardening then from taking medications that had been prescribed.

More Benefits of Planting Your Own Gardens That You Might Not Be Aware Of

Another very important reason for planting your own gardens is that many of the vegetables that you find in the supermarkets come from Genetically Modified Organisms which are supposed to extend shelf life.

However these GMO vegetables affect our minds and bodies in a negative way. On the other hand vegetables grown naturally (without chemicals) in our own gardens are vitamin rich.

Between growing your own food naturally and the sun’s healing rays you’ll benefit from receiving an over abundance of vitamins the natural organic way.

Your food will not only taste 100% better your health and well-being will more than likely improve tenfold.

Conclusion

If you are planning on getting into some sort of gardening activity to benefit from Nature’s Stress Diminishing Vitamins you shouldn’t do more than is doable.

Don’t make gardening a chore, create a space of your own, away from cell phones and computers and learn to relax and take in all that nature has to offer.

The pure natural vitamins you get from gardening will transform you and give you a real sense of purpose.

Creating a garden space and communing as one with nature can benefit you in plenty of ways and satisfy all your senses to relieve stress.
